Semana nueva y por fin tengo varias películas que comentar
que iré subiendo a lo largo de la semana. La que traigo hoy tampoco estaba en
la lista pero sí había escuchado hablar sobre ella antes de verla. Se trata de
En el corazón del mar.
Está dirigida por Ron Howard y basada en la historia real
acerca de la cual se inspiró Herman Melville para escribir la famosísima novela
de Moby Dick (la cual por cierto, aún no he leído). Owen Chase interpretado por
Chris Hemsworth, es un primer oficial de la embarcación Essex capitaneada por
el inexperto George Pollard, un hombre engreído de bien. El Essex parte de
Nantucket en busca de ballenas. Pero lo que iba a ser un viaje de seis meses,
se convirtió en una odisea de casi tres años en los que un cachalote blanco
anormalmente grande los llevó a naufragar y al borde de la extenuación y la
muerte para llegar a casa.
Sin ser una gran superproducción cuenta con un argumento
interesante, lleno de acción y drama a partes iguales. Es una película bastante
entretenida e interesante, tanto como las constantes luchas entre el capitán
engreído y el temerario oficial experto. Es cierto que no he leído Moby Dick y
por lo tanto, no tenía ninguna idea preconcebida y eso ha ayudado a no crear
grandes expectativas.

New week
and finally I have some more movies to review which I will be posting in the
coming days. The one I bring today wasn’t on my list but I had heard of it
before watching it. It is In the heart of the sea.
It was
directed by Ron Howard and it is also based on the story which inspired Herman
Melville to write his famous novel Moby Dick (I haven’t read it yet by the
way). Owen Chase is a first mate whaler played by Chris Hemsworth. He is member
of the Essew which is commanded by the inexpert George Pollard, an arrogant man
from a rich family. The Essex departs from Nantucket to obtain whale oil. But
what was to be a six-month-journey, finally turns into a barely three – years odyssey.
Because in their seeking of whales, they come up against a giant white whale
which made them be shipwrecked. In their attempt to return home they almost die
several times for several different reasons.
It is not
an overproduction, and its plot is quite interesting, full of action and drama,
having the best of the both worlds. It has great rhythm, not boring at all. It
is entertaining specially when the arrogant captain and the reckless expert
first mate argue, and they do it very often. As I haven’t read the book yet, my
mind was not full of preconceived ideas and that helped me in order to not
create great expectations beforehand and have a good opinion afterwards.
So my score
is 6.
